Frequently asked questions
What is FictionBooks?
A small, volunteer-run archive of amateur science fiction and fan fiction. Members write, workshop and publish short stories, many of them drafted with the help of AI tools and then edited by hand.
Are the stories written by AI?
Partly, and we say exactly how much. Every story carries a label: human-written, AI-assisted or AI-drafted. A person always has the idea, edits the text and signs it with their pen name. See the guidelines for details.
How do I become a member?
Membership is by invitation through our Facebook writing group. Join the group, introduce yourself in the welcome thread and take part in a couple of prompt threads. An administrator will then create an account for you on this site.
I can't log in. What should I do?
Accounts are created manually, so a new account can take a few days to appear. If the site says your login or password is not registered, message the administrator of the Facebook group. We cannot reset passwords by email.
Is it free?
Yes. There are no ads, no subscriptions and no paid tiers. Server costs are covered by a handful of members.
Can I submit fan fiction?
Yes, as long as it is transformative and names its source. We do not accept stories that copy scenes or text from published works.
Can I repost a story somewhere else?
Your story stays yours. You can publish it anywhere, before or after it appears here. Please do not repost other members' work without asking them.
Which AI tools do members use?
Whatever they like. The group has no sponsor and no preferred model. What matters is that the final text was read and rewritten by a person.
How do I contact the editors?
Through the Facebook group. There is no contact form on this site on purpose: it keeps spam out and keeps the conversation where the community already is.
